It is downright disgusting and unhygienic to say the least. This Government School in Karnal serves their children this food as their mid day meal. Ram Dev, cooking staff, said, "The food grain that we get is very dirty...the worms do not go despite washing it repeatedly. Teachers get angry, children don't eat this food. Our appeal to the Government is to send clean food." One of the rice sack provided by the state Government is infested with worms. Pawan Kumar, Headmaster, said, "The rice and wheat we get from Haryana Government has 15 per cent broken grain and it's mostly infested with worms and other insects. We make our cooks clean them, but despite repeated cleaning it still doesn't get cleaned." The students of this school's only ardent appeal to the state Government is to send them edible, hygienic food. Pooja, student said, "Food grain sent by the Government is mostly infested with worms. The cooks clean them, but do our politicians eat this food in their homes?" The mid day meal is an essential component to meet the nutritional needs of thousands of poor children but a meal served like this clearly reflecting the callous attitude on the part of the state Government.
